Not All Digitized Embroidery Files Are Created Equal

When choosing an embroidery digitizing service, it's important to look at the long-term benefits of a job done well.

At first glance, cheap overseas prices may seem attractive. However, consider this: is the file you just got going to allow you to make the least amount of thread changes, and will the back be as neat as the front? The last thing you want is customers complaining about the design sewn on their shirt making them itch!

Here at Affordable Digitizing we believe in excellent customer service and strive for superior quality designs that will keep your customers happy and ultimately save you time and money.

Left Chest Design · Polo / Shirt
Application

Digitizing for Left Chest Designs

Left chest digitizing is one of the most common requests we handle — and one of the most detail-sensitive. A typical left chest placement is between 3 and 4 inches wide and sits roughly 7 to 9 inches from the left shoulder seam. Stitch density, pull compensation, and underlay settings must be precisely dialed in to prevent fabric puckering or design distortion.

We digitize left chest designs for polo shirts, button-down shirts, dress shirts, and corporate uniforms. Every file includes the correct colour sequence to minimize thread changes on the production floor. Left chest placements work equally well on fleece and knit fabrics — we adjust density and stabilizer recommendations based on your fabric type.

Application

Jacket Back Embroidery Digitizing

Jacket back digitizing requires a completely different approach from a left chest design. Back designs can run from 8 to 14 inches wide — the stitch count and run sequence have a significant impact on sew time and fabric pull. A poorly digitized large design will cause the jacket to pucker or distort after the first wash.

Our digitizers plan jacket back files with walk stitches that travel the shortest possible distance between elements, reducing jump stitches and keeping the back of the jacket as neat as the front. Common applications include varsity jackets, satin bomber jackets, team uniforms, and corporate outerwear.

Cap / Hat Embroidery
Application

Design Digitizing for Hats & Caps

Digitizing a design for a hat or cap is one of the most technically demanding applications in embroidery. Structured caps require hooping a curved, semi-rigid surface — most placements are restricted to roughly 2.25 inches tall by 4.5 inches wide, and the curved surface introduces unique tension challenges that flat-garment digitizing cannot account for.

We increase underlay density, reduce pull compensation for the curved surface, and sequence the design to sew from center outward — minimizing distortion that causes text to shift or arcs to appear misaligned. We digitize for structured snapbacks, unstructured dad hats, trucker caps, and beanies.

Specialty Technique

3D Puff Embroidery Digitizing

3D puff embroidery creates a raised, three-dimensional effect by stitching over a foam backing placed under the design before the machine runs. When satin stitches are sewn across the foam at the correct angle and density, they pierce and lock the foam in place — producing a bold, sculptural look that stands out on caps, bags, and apparel.

The stitch angle must be perpendicular to the foam edge and each element must be sequenced carefully so the foam does not shift during the run. Popular for raised lettering and bold design marks on snapback caps, trucker hats, and premium branded merchandise.

Specialty Technique

Applique Digitizing Services

Applique digitizing uses a fabric patch to fill large design areas rather than covering them entirely with stitches. The process involves three stitch passes: a placement run, a tack-down run, and a satin border stitch that locks the edges. Because large areas are filled with fabric rather than thread, applique designs sew faster and cost less on large production orders.

Popular for team jerseys, school spirit wear, and oversized design applications on hoodies and jackets. Applique allows for multi-fabric effects — combining textures or colors for a high-end look that standard embroidery cannot replicate.

Specialist Service

Small Text Digitizing Specialists

Small text is one of the hardest challenges in embroidery digitizing. Any text under 5mm in cap height requires specific adjustments to remain legible after sewing. Our team widens stitch columns just enough to maintain the letterform, adjusts pull compensation for fabric stretch, and uses targeted underlay patterns.

We regularly handle designs that include taglines, phone numbers, URLs, and fine-print details that other digitizers refuse. If your design contains text you've been told is too small to embroider, send it to us — we'll evaluate it honestly and tell you exactly what's achievable.

Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about our embroidery digitizing service.

Can you digitize any design — not just logos?

Absolutely. We digitize everything — corporate designs, sports team artwork, pet portraits, custom illustrations, photos, hand-drawn sketches, and more. If you can imagine it and provide us artwork, we can digitize it.

How long does digitizing take?

Files are typically delivered within 24–48 hours of payment received (Monday through Friday). Orders received after 12 noon Friday are processed the following Monday. Rush options are available — contact us to confirm.

What garments can you provide embroidery files for?

We provide files for polo shirts, dress shirts, hoodies, jackets, varsity jackets, uniforms, caps, hats, bags, aprons, and more. Settings are adjusted specifically for your fabric type and placement.

What file formats do you accept and deliver?

We accept JPG, PNG, PDF, AI, EPS, PSD, SVG, BMP, TIFF — even hand-drawn sketches or photos. We deliver DST, PES, JEF, EXP, XXX, HUS, VIP, VP3, and more. Just tell us your machine brand when ordering.

Do you offer free revisions?

Yes — if there are any issues with our digitizing when you sew, we'll work with you until it's right at no extra charge. Every file is backed by our revision guarantee.

Do you specialize in small text digitizing?

Yes — small text is one of our specialties. We regularly handle designs with taglines, phone numbers, URLs, and fine-print details under 5mm that other digitizers refuse. Send it to us for an honest evaluation.

Do you digitize for 3D puff and applique?

Yes. Both techniques require different parameters than standard flat embroidery. Note which technique you need when submitting and we'll build the file with the correct settings for that specific application.

Do I need a vector file to place an order?

No. We work from raster images (JPG, PNG, even photos) just as well as vector files. Our expert digitizers hand-trace and recreate fine details from pixelated or compressed images when needed.
